How to Conduct a Wild Game Banquet
Baptist men need to use many ways to reach men who do not know Jesus. Many of those men will not come to church. One way to build a bridge to these men is through their interest in hunting and fishing. A wild game banquet will interest recreational and professional sportsmen from every economic level. Men who would have nothing to do with church will come to enjoy a meal of exotic game.
It is easy to conduct an association-wide wild game banquet.
1. Contact your local associational Baptist Men Director or Director of Missions to coordinate promotion, date, time and place with the associational calendar.
2. Find a location outside of a church if possible. Consider the associational camp ground, an outdoor tent, a convention center, or ball park. Be sure the sound system is adequate for the venue.
3. Enlist sponsor churches. This is the type of evangelistic event that churches of all sizes can help sponsor. Sponsor churches will help enlist men to bring the wild game dishes, provide door prizes and gospel literature, share Christ with attendees, and follow up on attendees.
4. Enlist a Christian sportsman with an authentic testimony, consistent walk with Christ, and clear message of how to meet Jesus. Confirm with him the evangelistic nature of the event.
5. Provide as many door prizes as possible. Ask the sponsor churches to provide funds to purchase a major door prize. See what items they can get donated. If the registration packets were not available include a Jesus video, gospel booklet, information about the churches and a New Testament with every gift.
6. Invite sports equipment companies to provide booths and displays of camping, fishing, and hunting gear.
7. Consider providing a registration packet to every attendee. Include free coupons and product advertisements from manufacturers, include information from all of the sponsor churches, include a gospel booklet and New Testament.
8. Order New Testaments, Jesus Videos, and gospel booklets from LifeWay or American Bible Society. Offer every person that registers a New Testament.
9. Arrange for sponsor churches to provide an adequate number of wild game dishes.
10. Provide cards to identify each dish.
11. Provide extensive promotion. The target audience is sportsmen and women who do not attend church.
12. Provide greeters who will share their testimony one-on-one about meeting Jesus
13. Register every person that comes to receive a door prize. Give them a name tag. The registration card should include name, address, email address, church membership, and a entries that say, "I would like more information about becoming a Christian."
14. Include ice-breaker type activities to get the attendees to meet church members and talk to each other.
15. The purpose of the event is to share Jesus with lost sportsmen. Give the speaker abundant time to share Christ and call for decisions.
16. Provide Decision cards for each person who accepts Jesus or makes another decision.
17. Follow up on every person that completes a registration card or decision card.
